Rainbow Fireside
A place for LGBTQ YSAs
Friendship and community for LGBTQ young single adults with ties to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, wherever you live.
Friendship first
Rainbow Fireside is a small, private online community on Discord, for LGBTQ young single adults who have a connection to the church and want friends who understand both.
It is a social space. People come to talk about everyday life, share what's on their minds, and sometimes talk about the harder things. Friendship comes first, and we love making time to have fun together with activities and events.
Gather Together
We're planning plenty of activities beyond the everyday conversation on Discord. To start, we'll be hosting a video meetup, and it will include:
-
Introductions
We start by saying hello. New faces are welcome, and there's no pressure to share more than you'd like.
-
A spiritual discussion
A relaxed conversation drawing on resources from Lift+Love, open to people at every point in their faith journey.
-
Something fun
We finish with an activity, like online party games, just for the joy of spending time together.
Joining is always optional. We'll share more activities as they come together.
Who it's for
There is a clear set of requirements, so everyone here knows who else is in the room.
-
LGBTQ+
You identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, including if you're still questioning.
-
Ages 18 to 35
You're at least 18 and haven't yet turned 36.
-
Not currently married
All singles are welcome whether you're never married, divorced, or widowed.
-
Connected to the church
A current, inactive, investigating, former, or resigned member, or someone with significant ties through family, friends, or upbringing.
We love allies and family members, but we'd like to keep this space special for LGBTQ+ people.
How joining works
-
Read the Code of Conduct
It explains who can join and how members treat each other, including how we protect each other's privacy. Read it here.
-
Apply through Discord
You'll agree to the server rules, confirm the requirements with a few yes-or-no answers, and write a short note about why you'd like to join. We ask for as little as we can, and we don't ask for your legal name, address, or phone number.
-
A moderator reviews it
Volunteer moderators look at each application. If it's approved, you'll get full access to the Discord server.
What it's like here
-
Private by design
Many of us aren't out. Protecting each other's privacy is the most important rule here, and we collect as little information as we can.
-
Faith is welcome
Testimonies, questions, doubts, and distance from the church are all treated with respect. Nobody is pressured in any direction.
-
Looked after by people
Volunteer moderators watch over the space and uphold a Code of Conduct. We're a peer community, not a counseling or crisis service.
Questions
Is Rainbow Fireside affiliated with the church?
No. Rainbow Fireside is an independent community. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and it does not speak for the church.
Do I have to be a member of the church?
No. You can be a current, inactive, investigating, former, or resigned member, or have significant ties to the church through your upbringing, family, or community. Your connection is self-described, and you don't need to be a member in good standing.
Can allies, family, or friends join?
Not under the standard route. This space is made by and for LGBTQ young single adults. Moderators may approve exceptions case by case at their discretion.
What kinds of events do you have?
We're planning lots of activities. To start, we're hosting a video meetup with introductions, a spiritual discussion, and a fun activity such as online party games. Members also get together informally on Discord, and we'll add more over time.
Is this a dating site?
No. Well, at least not exclusively. Friendship and community come first. Single members may meet each other, and dating is welcome when it's respectful and consensual, but it isn't the primary purpose of the space.
What information do you collect?
The application happens in Discord, so we see your Discord handle. It asks you to confirm the requirements with yes-or-no answers and to write a short note about why you'd like to join. We don't ask for your legal name, address, phone number, or ID. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, who can see it, and what choices you have.
What if I'm not out to anyone?
You're welcome to join. Many members aren't out. We recommend following the tips on our Getting started page to help keep your identity private.
I live outside the United States. Can I join?
Yes. Members can join from anywhere in the world. Laws on speech, religion, and sexuality vary widely, so please consider what's safe for you where you live.
Does it cost anything?
No. Rainbow Fireside is volunteer-run and self-funded. There are no fees, and members are never asked for money.
Is it safe?
We take privacy and safety seriously, with a Code of Conduct, volunteer moderators, and a commitment to collecting as little information as possible. But no online space is risk-free, and we can't guarantee anyone's privacy. Share only what you're comfortable with, and see our Getting started page for practical tips.
How can I get involved?
We'd love to hear from you. Email rainbowfireside@gmail.com and tell us how you'd like to help.
